Project Description
Bergen, the second largest city in Norway, decided to introduce a new tram system after the last tram line of the old system was closed in the year 1965. For this reason a project office was founded in August 2001 under the name of 'Bybanenkontoret' which is responsible for the conception and planning of an approx. 20 km long line between the city centre and the airport in Flesland. In the first phase an approx. 10 km long part of this line from Byparken to Nestum will be built.
To achieve the best possible solutions for the infrastructure and operations, it was decided to cooperate with experienced international consultants. After a Europe wide tender the contract for the technical assistance was awarded to a consortium consisting of the companies Pöyry Infra Ltd. (Zürich), TransTec Consult GmbH (Hannover) and VerkehrsConsult Dresden-Berlin GmbH (Dresden). The focus of the services performed by VCDB was on the procurement of vehicles.
