Project Description
Within the context of the modernisation of the rolling stock in Frankfurt am Main, Bombardier was awarded the contract to build 65 vehicles. These new vehicles are from the FLEXITY Classic Vehicle family which was developed by the former DWA Deutsche Waggonbau and is now produced by Bombardier Transportation.
These three-section articulated tramcars for bidirectional operations with a low floor part of approx. 70% have a capacity of 179 passengers. Conventional motor bogies, high component redundancy as well as the technical solutions which have been tried and tested in use should be the guarantee for passenger comfort, reliability as well as low maintenance and operating costs.
VCDB was commissioned for this work on the basis of their vast experience in supervising the manufacture of rail vehicles, their geographical location being not far from the Bombardier Transportation production site in Bautzen and considering their knowledge exchange with the Dresden transport company DVB AG who have already purchased vehicles of the type FLEXITY Classic and have them in operation.
