Project Description

The aim of the project is to improve the accuracy of the Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) System and consequently to enable an improvement of the Passenger Information System (PIS) and operational dispatching - in particular with regards to the guaranteeing of connections.
Taking into account the specific requirements of the city, region and rail transport alternative prognosis procedures were developed and evaluated.
With these results a prognosis module was designed and technically implemented with regards to the program. This had to be integrated into the existing system concepts (e.g. star point principle) and be used flexibly with the other systems on the market. In order to do this the necessary interfaces were specified in consultation with the transport companies, representatives from industry as well as the responsible standardization committee of the 'Association of German Transport Companies' (VDV).

VCDB's Scope of Services

• Appraisal of the prognosis procedure currently in use
• Definition and development of alternative prognosis procedures
• Evaluation of existing and alternative prognosis procedures on the basis of typical applications and scenarios with real data
• Design of an appropriate system architecture taking into account the systems already in use and the interface specifications
• Implementation, testing and validation of a manufacturer-independent prognosis module according to the star point principle
• Collaboration with relevant AVL System suppliers
• Collaboration with transport companies and associations
• Cooperation with the standardization committee of the 'Association of German Transport Companies' (VDV)
