Project Description

The central Anatolian city of Eskisehir decided to improve the public transport situation by introducing a new light rail system.
This system has a length of 17 km and includes 2 main lines, 26 stops, 6 traction substations, a workshop and storage yard and was put into operation in the year 2004. Bombardier Vienna supplied 18 low floor trams “City Runner” with a length of 30 m and a width of 2.30 m. A special feature is the metre gauge built in Eskisehir.
The suppliers of the system were a consortium consisting of Bombardier Transportation (M&E) and Yapi Merkezi Construction Turkey (Construction). The general management, the responsibility for the system integration and the start of operations was all in the hands of Bombardier.

VCDB's Scope of Services

VCDB supported Bombardier Transportation with the start of operations of the whole system. In detail:

  • Responsibility for the “Operations, Maintenance and Training Coordination”
  • Training of the driving instructors, the control centre personnel and the management
  • Testing of the operating personnel
  • Putting the system into operation after approval of the construction, the trial run and head-way test
  • Supply of documentation for the operations, control centre, workshop and maintenance
  • Operational assistance for the carrying out of operations
