Project Description

In preparation for the 2010 Football World Cup in South Africa the Ministry of Transport in the Gauteng region in the surroundings of Johannesburg planned to develop a new modern public transport network.
In addition to measures to the infrastructure for the creation of a new public transport system – such as a high-speed railway between Johannesburg and Pretoria (Gautrain) and an express bus system (BRT) in Johannesburg – a further objective was to plan and install a complete intermodal pricing system. Within the context of the implementation of the new pricing system the system concept and the roadmap for an integrated electronic fare management and ticketing had to be considered.
