Scope of Business: Infrastructure Planning
Focus: Road and Track Planning
Client: Metro Trains Melbourne Pty. Ltd.
Project Term: 2007
Project Locations: Dresden, Melbourne

Project Description

On behalf of Connex Melbourne (today Melbourne Metro Trains), level track crossings between trams and trains were analysed in on-site research in nine German transport companies as well as in Switzerland. In interviews the operators described their experiences of daily operation and the advantages and disadvantages of each solution. A differentiation was made between crossings with industrial trains and passenger trains.
The analysis covered the various types of grooved rails, the different types of safety devices and contact line systems. An overview of the suppliers of railway constructions and special forms of the contact line were also included.
