Traffic Surveys
The analysis of traffic flow represents an important basis for decision making when investments are to be made in traffic infrastructure. Depending on the objectives of the project, the complexity of the traffic flow, the number of different streams and the capacity of traffic there are several instruments VCDB can make use of (e.g. statistical performance tests according to the ‘HBS’ - equivalent to the ‘Highway Capacity Manual’ – or dynamic traffic simulations using VISSIM-Models).
Traffic Organisation
Ensuring the infrastructural performance as well as guaranteeing traffic safety is the main task of the traffic organisation. When VCDB are working on these they have to take the background and specific objectives of each project into consideration. Journey analysis, development concepts and planning the management of traffic during the construction period (including any temporary traffic light systems) are amongst their core competencies.
Planning of Traffic Lights and Operations Concepts
One part of VCDB’s scope of services is the technical and constructional planning of traffic lights systems - all phases listed in the architects’ handbook ‘German Fee Scales for Architects and Engineers/HOAI’ - using different traffic management philosophies (Traffic Language, free logic, VS-Plus). The subject of planning could be such things as temporary traffic lights or level crossings. In addition, VCDB can be called upon as experts on safety aspects.
