Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe AG
Dresdner Verkehrsbetriebe AG (DVB AG) is the sophisticated transport service provider for Saxony’s capital city Dresden. From operating a tram, bus, ferry and mountain railway fleet via market research, transport planning, scheduling of services, planning of fares, marketing, distribution and customer services, to infrastructure maintenance and staff training, DVB AG provides all services in connection with public transport as a single organisation. With 145 million passengers a year, DVB AG is the largest partner in the Upper Elbe Transport Alliance (Verkehrsverbund Oberelbe). Each day, the yellow trams and buses are used by about 170,000 inhabitants of Dresden and visitors to the city. The company currently operates 12 tram routes on a line network with a total length of 204.5 kilometres and 29 bus routes with a total line length of 311.4 kilometres, as well as four ferry crossings and two mountain railways that are protected as historical monuments. (Source: DVB AG) At present, DVB AG holds 74.9% of the shares in VCDB and with its nearly 1,700 employees it constitutes a pool of resources that can be drawn upon by the subsidiary company VCDB.
Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG AöR)
Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG), the largest municipal company for local public transport in Germany, was created in 1992 by the merger of the (East Berlin) BVB and the (West Berlin) BVG. Today, Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe and its nearly 10,200 employees run a complex network of trams, underground trains, buses and ferries, which is used by approx. 925 million passengers per year. Trams operate mainly in the eastern districts on 22 routes with a total line length of 293,8 km. The underground has 10 lines with a total line length of 146,3 km. The third component in the local transport network of Germany’s capital are the buses, which operate on 149 routes with a total line length of 1,675 km.
Furthermore six ferry lines are offered.
Daily services on four systems in a city of 3.4 million – all this experience is available to VCDB for the realisation of its projects.
